The Linkerville Board of Education on Monday accepted the resignation of LHS Principal Selma Ramirez. The board said in a statement that it accepted the resignation “with regret.”
“I regret it too,” Ramirez said. “I really like it here.” Ramirez told the board she was resigning to enroll in a doctoral program in school administration at State University. The board passed a resolution praising Ramirez for her work in the two years she served.
In other action, the board tabled a plan to examine the school’s academic policies as they relate to athletic participation. The plan had been submitted by Superintendent Aleesa Allison. Early today, Allison said she was “terribly disappointed” by the action.
“I really thought it was a good plan,” she said. “I thought it has merit. But that’s not the first time I’ve been disappointed.”
On another matter, the board approved a 5 percent increase in the LHS budget for the next fiscal year. However, Board President Henry Archer said the increase would require a raise in taxes. “And we all know that many in this community consider a tax increase an evil,” he added.

Another evil, littering, was considered in a report submitted by the LHS Student Council. The council called for stiffer penalties to be imposed upon students caught littering. The board thanked the students but took no action.
