I am sorry that I am not in class with you today. I had to rush my mother to the hospital. Please finish your test. Then read the Times Leader for the remainder of class. Note the layout.
Today we are going to take a review quiz to make sure you are remembering all aspects needed to write a journalism article. This will be your first grade of marking period three
Goal: Students will write and label a journalism article
1.Workbook- page 93 - Ex 17
On a separate sheet of paper, take the following quiz
A. Make an outline - To be turned in - On the outline- Mark each section with the appropriate title. Ex- Paragraph 1= Lead - The introduction paragraph.
Paragraph 2- this paragraph explains the lead
B. Label each selection of information as follows, A,B, C, D...etc. Please write in pencil so you can erase it
(use these letters for your outline)
C. Write the article - Label each paragraph
D. Print out all three sheets and staple them
E. Turn in your work by the end of the period.
F. Turn your outline in to the substitute
G. Turn your work in to www.turnitin.com

Students will explore layout of a newspaper
If I am absent, here is the alternative assignment:
Pick up a copy of the Times Leader,
Mark the following layout elements:
1. A five colum layout article
2. A 2, 3,4 and1 colum article.
-you should have marked five articles so far
-please label clearly
3. Top and bottom headlines.... Top should be larger
4. A headline where a comma takes the place of the word "and"
5. Make a note about the layout structure of the classifieds
6. Mark and note the format of an article that is continued
7.mark a headline and a subhead line. That is the smaller headline under the main
8. Circle eac top header of each section
9. Look at the main masthead on page one... Label each element that you see

-All presentations must be 3 minutes
-Students will feature their object of review. Please organize a demonstration of each review.
-Students using Power Point will create a 10 slide presentation (This does not include your title page or your works cited page at the end of the presentation)
-Presentations must be creative.
*The slides should be creative and contain a theme
*Slide one - Title slide
(Contain pictures/ graphics/ animations, name, topic, period - use clean transitions. DON"T STUFF your slides)
*Slides 2-3 introduction to topic - give specifics
**Center slides - 4-8, pictures, specifics, what your topic is famous for, positive or negative aspects
*Slide 9 -Conclusion and your opinion - use specifics as to why people should or shouldn't use your product.
*Slide 10 - Works Cited
**All graphics must be relevant
***Include links to actual subject being reviewed
***Provide examples for class
****Don't just say Applebees is a restaurant that serves a variety of food........You must explain the variety
*Students should present their material in a creative manner (EX. Dress like their
character,bring information to pass out to the class, create an overview sheet for the class, play music or video clips)
Restrictions:
-You may not read from note cards or your slides during your presentation
-Your slides must be creative.......More than a photo or a group of words
-You may use 3 small note cards during your presentation; however, you may not read from the cards.
