Research and Report on a Famous Journalist


Choose one of the journalists from the list below and create a PowerPoint presentation on his/her life. Be sure to include all elements from the requirements list below.

Requirements:
1. Your PowerPoint presentation should include the following in a well organized, well written report (in your own words):
• biography of his/her life
• how he/she became a journalist
• highlights of his/her career
• what he/she is known for, remembered for
• include any special pioneering aspects of his/her career
• views he/she held about journalism (and related fields, like photojournalism), politics, war, society, etc.
• other interesting details that make your report complete
• a photo or illustration of your reporter
• snippets of or samples of his/her work (photos, article excerpts, etc.)
• a works cited page: MLA format- use www.noodletools.com to cite your sources (you need a minimum of two sources); this page should be your last slide.
2. As you present your report, be sure that you are not merely reading what is on the slide, but that you are speaking to your audience (that's us) and developing the ideas fully.
3. Do not make your slides difficult to read or see. Use color schemes that are easy on the eye. Do not add too many bells and whistles, but do make your presentation visually appealing. Make the tone of the slide match the tone of your person. (Serious=serious).
4. Save your PowerPoint on tvstudio It's a good idea to make a back up copy.

Specifics:
Must include a minimum of 12 slides (1= intro slide; 12= Works Cited Slide)

Article Assignment:

Create a FEATURE article on your selected journalist. Be sure to include all elements from the requirements list below.

1. Inverted Pyramid style
2. Lead: You should focus on their contribution to the field of journalism
3. Second paragraph that explains the lead
4. One quote....it should be from you. You need to make a comment on the life of the selected journalist that will support your paper and your research.
5. Discuss how their life choices / background impacted their work
6. Organize details from their life
7. Conclusion

A. Use active voice
B. Use third person
(except in direct quotes)
C. Use transitions
D. NO contractions
E. Use proper format
F. Make sure to include ample detail. Be sure your reader understands your topic. Never assume.
