Surveys

Surveys, numbers, stats and more.....oh my
Surveys:
Goal: Students will review key elements to making surveys and collecting data
Students will learn to incorporate the data into their articles.


Today, 1/27: Students will watch a PowerPoint on conducting surveys
Friday, 1/28: Begin to read the section on surveys in Journalism Today.

Students will read the assigned pages 71-79
In groups, students will come up with key topics from the reading
Each group will be assigned a topic and present it to the class
Brainstorming
Information from Polls
Fair Samples
Asking the right Questions
Cautions
Wrap-up with example

Tuesday, 2/1: Begin the survey process
1. Students will begin their outlines and rough drafts
2. Students will create and conduct their surveys (200 total)
3. Students will utilize statistical information in their articles

Wednesday, 2/2 - Friday, 2/11- Students will complete surveys, interviews, research and rough drafts

Tuesday, 2/8 - Survey check: You must have at least 100 surveys completed

Thursday, 2/10: All surveys are due (100 pts) ; Students will work on their rough drafts
Tuesday, 2/15: Students will complete and turn in their rough drafts
Wednesday, 2/16: Final Drafts and stat info due.

**There will be checks for points throughout the week

Presentation Requirements

Review Presentations
Goal: Students will organize a presentation to evaluate their chosen topic
**Because of the snow delays, the presentation dates are as follows:
Deadlines
1/13-1-15- Work on PowerPoints
1/23-1/25 - Review presentations

**If you finish early, you may work on your presentation.

Requirements:
-All presentations must be 3 minutes
-Students will feature their object of review. Please organize a demonstration of each review.
-Students using Power Point will create a 10 slide presentation (This does not include your title page or your works cited page at the end of the presentation)
-Presentations must be creative.
*The slides should be creative and contain a theme
*Students should present their material in a creative manner (EX. Dress like their
character,bring information to pass out to the class, create an overview sheet for the class, play music or video clips)


Restrictions:
-You may not read from note cards or your slides during your presentation
-Your slides must be creative.......More than a photo or a group of words
-You may use 3 small note cards during your presentation; however, you may not read from the cards.
